In the context of the current exhibition, Contre Nature, a solo exhibition by the Berlin-based, Algerian artist Kader Attia, Beirut Art Center is organizing an evening in two parts, including a book launch, around architecture. The evening begins with a conversation between Kader Attia and Richard Klein at the occasion of launching RepaiR (BlackJack, 2014) at Beirut Art Center.

RepaiR (BlackJack, 2014) consists of interviews and texts around Attia’s oeuvre and the notion of repair by 13 academics and researchers working in various disciplines.

Texts and interviews by :
Nicky Clayton, Amanda Crawley Jackson, Olivier Galaverna, Léa Gauthier, Serge Gruzinski, Hélène Hazéra, Richard Klein, Jacinto Lageira, Kobena Mercer, Bernard Mole, Ana Teixeira Pinto, Françoise Vergès, Marion Von Osten.

Texts (archives) :
Jacques Derrida, Frantz Fanon, Michel Foucault, Achille Mbembe, André Ravéreau, Edward S. Said, Jean Paul Sartre, Paul Virilio, Alfred Wallace

The evening continues under the stars on the terrace with Pierre Leguillon’s La Promesse de l’architecture. Produced at the initiative of CAPC, Musée d’Art contemporain de Bordeaux, La Promesse de l’architecture was first projected at the Maison Lemoine in Floirac, designed by Rem Koolhaas, in 2009. It is a part of the project La promesse de l’ecran, a moving, site-specific installation and an ongoing series of films that the artist believes are « dedicated to the peripheral. » La Promesse de l’architecture incorporates dozens of sequences that were either shot in monuments worthy of attention, or that remarkably describe architecture. An imaginary city unfolds on the screen in which architects are at once Michalengelo Antonioni, Jacques Tati, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Oscar Niemeyer, Jean-Luc Godard, Fritz Lang, Bertrand Blier, Man Ray, and Frank Lloyd Wright.
